RE: storing tv's

A regular old "cathode ray tube" the cold will not harm. Not sure about LCD screens.

RE: Do you leave your brake controller in the vehicle?

Stays in year-round. Actually it is mounted in the space where the ashtray formerly resided.

RE: Power Jack need to be covered?

I cover my Barker with a pail. Fits perfectly and the pail is handy if I need it to go pick berries.

RE: Anyone cutting their vacation short?

I agree with you crapie_fisherman. I have had it with worrying about the price of fuel. Most of the people who own RV's work too hard all year to spend their vacation sitting home. I went in today and told them at work I am taking a week off to camp this fall. I'll cut out a trip or two to WalMart, brew my own coffee instead of getting it at McDonalds, pack my lunch each day, drink tap water instead of bottled, whatever it takes to get out and have some fun before I am too old to go.

RE: Black Tank problems

There seems to also be a health issue with this type plumbing set-up. When the black tank is full wouldn't the contents back up into the shower? That would never fly with any type home plumbing, what type fools would try a plumbing design like this in a TT?

RE: Which truck for TT

If you plan to tow the trailer every weekend for thousands of miles the 2500 and its advantages is the ticket.
Tow a few times a year? Get the 1500 if it is within the weight parameters (it should be with the 26' Outback) set it up with a good WD hitch and dual cam sway control, load light, and save fuel year round on the truck.

RE: Is this WD hitch any good?

Our trailer came with the Robin system, the dealer "threw" it in with the deal and did a nice job of fitting it to our former tow vehicle. Honestly, I would have preferred an American made set-up but I looked it over real close and can see no problems with it, good heavy piece of equipment. I had towed a few cargo trailers so I knew about the need for hitch weight and had good luck towing with our old truck with little sway. I always hooked up a friction sway bar just in case. At the time our trips were short and at the end of the trip I would be a little tired afterward, but no big deal.
Since then we have upgraded our tow vehicle for longer trips and added the Reese Dual Cam setup to the Robin bars. Now it really tows nice. I skirted a big thunderstorm last weekend with some serious cross wind and even though you could feel the wind push, there was no sway. This was our first real test of the system we have, and we are glad we spent the money and time to get it right. To arrive at your destination after towing all day and not be worn out is fantastic.
To sum it up I would not be afraid of the Robin WD system if the price is right (ours was). Good quality stuff.

RE: Water heater died

How old is the unit? Under 5 years old fix it. Over 5 years old replace the whole thing.

RE: Let My Neighbor Borrow/Rent My TT?

I think I'll wait until he brings it up ;)
If he brings it up I would do everything I could to help him get started with towing and camping. Except loaning him the trailer.
Take him along on a trip with your rig, find him a rental or help him shop for his own trailer. Give him the advantage of all you have learned over the years. This forum is great for newebies, but having a neighbor to show you the ropes, is priceless.

RE: Truck Suck/ Wind Sway

BTW. The insructions with your friction type sway bar will tell you to disable it in wet and slick conditions.

RE: Wondering About WD?

That is good advice from Barney. Willy, you deserve some credit as well for putting in the effort and asking the questions to get your rig towing right.
I see so many TV-TT combinations that are out of whack and have to tow like******because the owner never questioned the dealers inital set-up, or did it themselves without getting the facts first.
The advice on the towing forum stickys is real helpful and worth printing out and keeping with your trailer for later reference.

RE: Increasing tow capacity

Hi Y'all--
I'm a newbie to the towed camping scene and am considering buying a 27 foot Mallard or Wildwood. I have a 90 Jeep Cherokee 4x4 that has a 500 lb tow capacity and each of these are in the 4400 pound range. One problem is that the dealer recommends that this vehicle tow no more than 23 feet of length. Sounds like its a 'close but no cigar situation.
Did I read that right? The dealer made a correct recommendation?

RE: nitrogen for tires

OK If air is 78 percent nitrogen I shouldn't have to pay to fill mine with nitrogen. I can just get rid of the 22 percent oxygen and other gases in them and I should be all set!

RE: Just stirring the transmission fluid

I found out on our last trip that tow haul does not lock out OD on the Avalanche. Cruising about 58 mph on flat river bottom there was a big tail-wind from the southwest. The trans shifted into 4th as we came down a small grade and stayed in OD on the flat with that wind from behind. I left it alone and kept an eye on the trans temp. The temp stayed where it had been for some time, about 180 and never went up. RPM in 4th was about 1800 compared with 2300 in 3rd. Turned slightly to the northwest and it shifted back to 3rd by itself. Never had that occur before.

RE: Cleaning wheel bearings

Get a seal remover tool from any auto parts store. I made my own from an old screwdriver. A bit of heat, bending, and grinding and it matched the dimensions of the one from NAPA that I used to borrow from a buddy.

There was an article in last months Trailer Life about restoring an older trailer. They removed the old damaged stone guard and replaced it with smoked plexiglass. Looked nice.

RE: Scissor Jacks

Rem Oil to lube the rotating parts, it will not collect road grime like grease, stays longer than WD40. I use an old (1990's) Craftsman 7.2 volt that had sat unused for years. Charged it up, lubed the jacks and it will run them all up and down three times on a charge.

RE: 2007 Silverado Tire Pressure Alert

This onboard pressure monitor deal on the new Chevrolets is about to drive my Mom nuts. My Dad constantly monitors the pressure and reports it to Mom as they travel. He is constantly messing with the tires before they leave and then if one is at 37 and the others at 35 while driving he gets upset. He is driving the poor woman crazy with this thing.
She confided in me about this deal. I told him to check them cold and forget them. Since that talk she said he is doing better. Last weekend she said he just checked them once on a 140 mile round trip, and did not comment to her on the readings.
